Employee Spotlight: Darrin Scallan, Business Systems Analyst

Resume and Job Description: Darrin studied at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA and majored in Business Management and Marketing.

He has worked in banking since 1999, mainly in mortgage warehouse lending. He has previously worked with American General Finance (prior to being bought by AIG), WaMu (then Chase), EverBank (prior to acquisition from TIAA Bank), and Santander Bank.

Darrin started working with Shaw Systems as a Business Systems Analyst reporting to Rachel Negron on the Client Support Team in 2018.  It was the perfect time and opportunity for him to move back to Houston and be closer to family.  His team works with clients already in production, helping them to troubleshoot and solve issues they may be having with SPECTRUM, as well as acting as liaison between them and various other teams within Shaw to assist in creating enhancements or bug fixes.

Rave Review: Darrin’s manager Rachel Negron says: “In just over a year Darrin has proven to be an invaluable member of the Client Support Team and one of our SPECTRUM Floor Plan experts. The banking industry experience and knowledge he brings to the team is a strong addition. Darrin utilizes his excellent client services skills to manage stressful situations. His ability to quickly learn and understand SPECTRUM has allowed him to become a huge asset for SPECTRUM clients. Darrin is flexible with reprioritizing his tasks when critical production issues arise. He will jump in to help his teammates quickly troubleshoot a high priority issue. Darrin has grown in his role as a Business Systems Analyst and learning Spectrum over the past year. I am grateful to have him as part of the Shaw Family.”

Family & Interests: Darrin has been with his husband for over seven years and married for a little over four years. He has a son who was married last September and he and his wife are expecting Darrin’s first grandchild (a girl) this September. They also have two dogs and an aquarium.

Darrin enjoys reading autobiographies/memoirs, playing word games, and singing. He released a CD of sacred/inspirational songs titled “From The Heart” in 2017. The songs were also released digitally on iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play in 2018. It was something he had on his bucket list for over 15 years. Darrin donated all profits from the CD to Camp Hope, a week-long camp for children living with HIV/AIDS. He used to be a camp counselor there for about eight years, until he moved away for work, but wants to continue to support this worthy cause.

Perspective: Darrin says: “I really enjoy my job. It was an adjustment for me to “reverse” my thinking as I was always on the banking side and dealt with vendors. Now I am the vendor dealing with the banks.

I truly enjoy my colleagues, especially those on my team. We have a very unique bond and communicate very well with each other. We make it easy to collaborate with each other and everyone is so willing to jump in to help or assist another, no questions asked. It is quite refreshing and makes coming to work more enjoyable.”
