Martin Beaulac, Autonum Presto Leasing’s Chief Financial Officer, has been with the company since 2013. He has 15 years of experience in supervision and management of finance teams in the service and manufacturing industry with companies such as APGNeuros Inc., PR Maintenance Management, Allianz Madvac Inc., and Nordia Inc.

What’s your #1 business priority for 2014-2015?

I was appointed CFO of Autonum Presto Leasing about a year ago, and my top priority for the next 12 months is to optimize the processes in order to be able to move to the next level as a leader in the province of Quebec in the sub-prime car lending category. The selection of Shaw Systems as the loan servicing application is phase 1 of that strategy.

The leading characteristic of a financial services organization?

Competitive products and customer service are the key success factors. Manage the relationship with dealers and customers with clear expectations and a clear service offering. Be able to identify and monitor the key performance indicators and take proper actions to improve or correct them.

Your top piece of advice for future financial services executives?

Be at the forefront of the competition, always reinvent your product and services offerings. The competition in alternative car financing is very competitive in North America. The status quo will eventually seriously affect your business success.

When you were 20, what did you envision for your career?

At 20, I knew already that accounting was my career, but I was expecting to be an accounting clerk at the same place for 30 years like my parents. I later took confidence in my potential and some individuals inspired me and gave me the opportunity to pursue a University degree and a CPA designation. For the last 15 years I have occupied CFO positions in different organizations.

The most unusual job you’ve ever had?

When I was a teenager, my first job was to sell soft drinks and food at the local bingo hall in the east side of Montreal. During that time weekly bingo was in the Church basement where 300 people were smoking all night. When I was back at home after bingo, everybody knew that I had just come in by the smell. Your favorite book or movie? I’m a big fan of action and science-fiction movies. The Star Wars series are definitely my favorite movies along with the Indiana Jones series.

Favorite quote or motto?

An old man once told me, “What is important is what has been understood, not what has been said.” It always reminds me how important communication is.
