Shaw Systems is committed to community service and volunteerism. Shaw gives its employees paid Charity time to complete charitable activities.
Charity Spotlight: Worthdays is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Richmond, Virginia whose mission is to mobilize the community to ensure that those impacted by the foster care system know they are important, worthy, and celebrated. Worthdays celebrates youth in the local foster care system who otherwise would not be celebrated on important days in their lives. Many of the children served live in group homes, treatment centers, programs that support them in transitioning to living on their own, or programs for teen parents.
One of our employees supports the Worthdays Holiday Giving program. Sponsors choose one or more foster children that they would like to sponsor. Sponsors shop for their children using a wish list provided by the child’s social worker. “It feels good to give to others, especially kids in the foster care system. We hope the gifts bring a smile to their face. I like to include my child in the process, so he learns the importance of helping others. It’s a great activity to do together during the holiday season.”
